Not much new from the month of April. Just work – which in this economy, I’m damn happy to have! The SSJ gig continues to be a challenge, yet a real blast to do. We had a fantastic show at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ which was very well received and positively reviewed. It was great to see some old friends at the show (one of the benefits of playing close to home…)

On a sad note, the passing of legendary Band member Levon Helm was unwelcome news. I had the opportunity to work with Levon on only one occasion and I am saddened that opportunity will never arise again. He was a beautiful, warm and genuine man and his light, vitality and energy will be missed. The light of the world is certainly a bit dimmer without him.

In addition to more Southside dates, there are a couple things I’m excited about and wanted to share. I’ll be joining my longtime friend Roz Brown for another show this Friday, the 4th, at The Darby that promises to be a whole lotta fun. Anytime Roz is involved, ya know the party’s on!

Next Thursday, the 10th, I’ll be with the Scott Burrows 5!ve at the Underground Lounge. If you’ve never heard Scott’s blend of old B-side tunes and, ahem, unique takes on familiar songs, you’re in for a treat, so stop by.

And on Wednesday, the 23rd, Live Funk Nouveau will crowd (literally…) the stage at the Bitter End, presenting a tribute to the music of Tower of Power. Should be a bootie-shakin, groovin’, soul vaccinatin’ great time with some of my absolute favorite musicians! Me – Baritone Saxophone; Anibal Rojas – Tenor Saxophone; Bill Harris – Tenor Saxophone; Andy Hunter – Trombone; Chris Anderson – Trumpet; and Don Harris – Trumpet; Gintas Janusonis – Drums; Greg Novick – Bass; Tony Ormond – Guitar; our fearless leader and soul vaccinator in chief, Chris Fischer – Keyboards; and featuring wild man and MC of NUTS(!) – Michaelangelo – Vocals. Don’t miss this one!
